NEW DELHI, June 26: A 52-year-old man, Anil Nagpal, was arrested by the Social Defence Wing of the Delhi Police yesterday while he was accepting payment for services to be rendered by five prostitutes.
The police were tipped-off that Nagpal, a resident of Rani Bagh in north-west Delhi, was allegedly running a musical group for the last three years as a cover for the flesh trade. There were five girls working for him. The girls are all married and in the age group of 20-25 years.
When the police received this information, a decoy customer spoke to Nagpal over the phone and decided to meet at Riwaaz restaurant on Punjabi Bagh club road. Nagpal arrived in a van. The deal was fixed for Rs 5,000 per girl. It was also decided that Nagpal would take half the amount.
When the decoy customer paid Rs 1,000 in advance to Nagpal, the latter was arrested under the Immoral Traffic Act. In a statement to the police, the prostitutes said that they had taken to the trade because their families were going through severe financial crunch as their husbands were not earning enough to sustain their needs.
