CHANDIGARH, May 24: The Punjab Human Rights Commission has ordered registration of a judicial case on a complaint filed by an SAS Nagar resident, Sher Singh, regarding his alleged illegal detention by officials of a police station in Phase I, Mohali. The case will come up for hearing before the Commission on June 24.

In his complaint filed here, Sher Singh stated that he had been living in house number 78 since 1990. The said house was owned by late Baba Balwant Singh Talwandi and that after his assassination, the officials of police station, Phase I, SAS Nagar, started pressurising him to vacate the house.

He alleged that on December 19, 1998, SHO Avtar Singh forcibly entered the house. The complainant added that he was maltreated and kept in illegal confinement for two hours.

It was added that on April 13, while the complainant was away, Avtar Singh, accompanied by some armed persons, came to the house and broke open the lock of the first floor of the house which was in possession of the complainant. Sher Singh alleged that his old parents were alone at home at that time and the SHO left only when some neighbours intervened. But, it was alleged that he returned at night and threatened to eliminate the entire family and take forcible possession of the house.

The complainant also stated that he sent telegrams to DSP, Punjab Police, SSP, Ropar, Home Secretary and Chief Minister, informing them of this gross violation of human rights, but no action was taken.
