DERABASSI, May 10: Punjab government pensioners from all over the state assembled here today to protest quot;the indifferent attitude of the state government.quot;

Ajit Singh Bagri, General Secretary of the Punjab State Pensioners Confederation, announced that on May 28, protests and rallies would be held all over Punjab. PSPC members would sit on 24-hour hunger strike in groups of five each in front of each treasury in the state, he said.

He urged the government to release the dearness relief instalment as on January 1, 1999, merge 97 per cent dearness relief in basic pension as on July 1, 1993, implement the Supreme Court decision in the Dr Asa Case in favour of employees retired before March 31, 1985, grant 50 per cent state transport bus fare concession and raise fixed medical allowance from Rs 250 per month to Rs 500.

The protesters marched through Derabassi shouting Punjab sarkar murdabad and handed over a memorandum to the local Sub-Divisonal Magistrate.
