
The People8217;s Democratic Conference in India PDCI chief, Siddiqullah Chowdhury, announced on Saturday that his party will field a candidate in the upcoming Assembly by-elections in Nandigram.
Chowdhury, who has a considerable following in Nandigram, was a part of the prolonged anti-land acquisition agitation along with the Trinamool Congress. The party has decided to field its secretary Badsah Alam, who was a BJP leader. 8220;The people of Nandigram want a third option apart from the CPM and the Trinamool Congress. Therefore, we have decided to pitch in. The locals feel that what the CPM was doing then, the Trinamool is doing now. They are collecting taxes and beating up villagers,8221; said Chowdhury.
8220;The Trinamool is also conspiring against me. I will personally be present there for 15 days till the end of the elections,8221; added Chowdhury. The PDCI chief met the district leaders on Friday regarding the situation in Nandigram and the name of the candidates was finalised on Saturday. The PDCI had a state-level meeting on Saturday.
On the Lalgarh agitation, the PDCI chief, said: 8220;We consider the tribal agitation legitimate and extend all our support to the leaders.8221;
