
ROHTAK, Feb 10: The proxy war waged by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir and subversive activities in other parts of the country should be handled with a strong hand, backed with effective deterrence, said Chief of Army, General V.P. Malik, while delivering a special lecture on the 8220;Transition of Indian Army to the Twenty-first Century8221; at the Maharishi Dayanand University here today.
General Malik said that India has a pivotal role to play, especially in South Asia, in terms of the present geo-strategic environment, keeping the rapid technological changes in mind. He termed technology as an engine of change and currency of power as far as the next century was concerned.
General Malik, in his lecture, touched upon varied aspects of Indian security, including regional strategic environment, domestic environment, and technological trends.
