SURAT, MARCH 7: The Rander police on Sunday afternoon arrested a Pakistani citizen for overstaying in the country even as his stipulated stay period expired more than three years ago. One Yakub Mohammed Hatiya 74, residing in Panjra Ghar Mohalla in Variyav village on the outskirts of the city, was arrested for residing illegally in the country since December 1995, without any valid passport or visa. Hatiya has been booked under the provisions listed down in paragraph three of the Indian Passport Rules 1950, section 14 of the Foreigners Act and paragraph 7 iii of the Foreigners Order 1948.

A complaint was lodged in the police station by Rander PSI B D Goswami on behalf of the government, the special branch here said on Sunday evening.
