LAHORE, Nov 7: Pakistan and Indian hockey officials are discussing the prospects of continuing a hockey Test series between the arch rivals, an Indian hockey official said today.
Indian Hockey Federation public relations manager Krishna Mech, who is currently here, said he would invite Pakistani officials to India to finalise the dates for the series.
Pakistan and India resumed a hockey series earlier this year with an eight-match series, four matches in each country. For the Indian hockey team, it was their first visit to Pakistan after a gap of eight years.The president of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Akhter Rasool and secretary Mudassar Asgher are expected to visit India after the Champions Trophy in Lahore, which ends tomorrow.
The series is expected to take place in February 1999 before the six-nation tournament in Dubai next March.
“The resumption of a Pakistan-India series is the best thing that has happened to Asian hockey and we are determined to keep it a regular feature,” Rasoolsaid.
Pakistan beat India 4-3 on account of their wins in Peshawar, Rawalpindi Hyderabad and Chennai. India won three Tests in Lahore, Karachi and Delhi.
