The government in Pakistan may be in the final stages of deciding to hold the crucial parliamentary and provincial assembly elections on December 27 or December 28, a report the Daily Times said.Meanwhile, former army chief Jehangir Karamat and retired State Bank governor Ishrat Hussain are among those being tipped to head a proposed caretaker government in Pakistan that will take the country through the general election.Hamid Nasir Chattha, the vice-president of the ruling PML-Q, is also considered a front-runner for the post of Prime Minister of the interim set-up. Even as it is considering these dates, it is also evaluating whether to hold the elections to the national assembly and the four state legislatures simultaneously, the daily said today quoting unnamed sources. The report said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would announce the election schedule within 10 days of the Supreme Court (SC) verdict on the pending petitions regarding the presidential polls, likely to be pronounced by October 17.Sources said the assemblies would likely be dissolved by end October. The elections would then be held under the supervision of an interim setup within 60 days.
