Pak funded Taliban: report

The revelation comes just days after Pakistan8217;s President Pervez Musharraf acknowledged that there is 8220;no doubt8221; Afghan militants are supported from Pakistani soil. 8220;While Musharraf admitted the Taliban were being sheltered in the lawless frontier border regions, the declassified US documents released on Wednesday clearly illustrate that the Taliban was directly funded, armed and advised by Islamabad itself,8221; the National Security Archives said in a statement.

The government documents, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, also detailed US concerns about Pakistani troops training and fighting alongside the Taliban inside Afghanistan.

8220;The records released represent the complete and comprehensive collection of declassified documentation to date on Pakistan8217;s aid programmes to the Taliban, illustrating Islamabad8217;s firm commitment to a Taliban victory in Afghanistan,8221; the Archives said.
