Brad Hodge8217;s first limited-overs international hundred and four wickets from Brad Hogg took Australia to a 229-run World Cup win over Netherlands on Sunday.

Hodge blasted seven sixes and eight boundaries to score 123 and shared a Cup record 204-run, fourth-wicket stand with Michael Clarke 93 not out as defending champions Australia reached 358 for five. Hogg then took 4-27 8212; while Nathan Bracken and Glenn McGrath took two wickets apiece 8212; as the Netherlands were dismissed for 129 in the 27th over.

Hodge and Clarke combined after Australia lost two wickets without scoring to be 116 for three at Warner Park. Clarke hit 93 not out off 85 balls. Ricky Ponting had won the toss and opted to bat first as Australia kept the same XI that beat Scotland in its opener.

In the 12th over, Matthew Hayden 29 misjudged a cut shot to Tim de Leede8217;s medium-pace offbreaks and skied a catch to Peter Borren at point to end a 73-run stand with Adam Gilchrist. Ricky Ponting was dropped on 23 in the 19th over, as his attempted flick off Ryan ten Doeschate was held by mid-wicket fieldsman Baz Zuiderent, who spilled the ball as he went to throw it in the air. Hodge looked scratchy early and was fortunate to survive an lbw shout from de Leede.
