Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani today claimed that the BJP is close towards reaching a Hindu-Muslim consensus on Ayodhya and that the Congress was jealous of its success.
Talking to mediapersons in Agra on Sunday, Advani said the Ayodhya issue cannot be solved in court, as the legal proceedings will consume much time and the people want an early resolution to the problem.
He said the Congress has been misleading Muslims so far, making them believe that the BJP is anti-Muslim, when in reality, only the BJP truly cares for Muslims and the rest just treat them as a potential vote bank.
On the Indo-Pak talks, Advani said the dialogue is proceeding with great pace and soon a ‘‘momentous change’’ will be visible in the relations of the two countries.
The DPM said he has witnessed the radical change that the country has gone through during his ‘‘Bharat Uday Yatra’’. ‘‘Now, there are hopeful faces everywhere, beaming with pride to be Indians and if the BJP wants to take credit for this change in the people, there is nothing wrong in that,’’ he said.
In the past 50 years, the Congress has given nothing but misrule to the country and when the BJP took it to task for its mistakes, the Congress leaders took it personally, he said.
According to Advani, the BJP does not treat the foreign origin of Sonia Gandhi as a personal issue. ‘‘It is a political issue and the people of India should have a right to deny a constitutional post to a foreigner,’’ he said.
Earlier, while addressing a public meeting in Agra on Saturday night, Advani said the BJP has given an ‘‘impartial and truly secular’’ leadership to the country.
