CHANDIGARH, April 1: Two people were today convicted by UT Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Tejwinder Singh under Sections 379 and 411 IPC and sentenced to one month simple imprisonment each after they confessed having stolen a Maruti belonging to a city resident.

The duo, namely, Krishan Kumar of district Alwar and Raj Kumar of Rewari, were booked for theft on February 15, 1998. They were charged with dishonestly keeping in their possession stolen property in the area of Sector 3, Rewari. They had allegedly stolen the car belonging to one Hari Chand.

The accused had been in judicial custody since July, 1998 and today they were convicted in the case after they confessed the crime.

Man fined for possessing liquor
A city resident, Rakesh Kumar was today convicted under the Excise Act by UT Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Vani Gopal Sharma and was told to pay a fine of Rs 1,200. The accused was earlier booked by the city police under Sections, 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act. Ten bottles of liquor had allegedly been recovered from his possession in the Dadu Majra colony, following which he was arrested.
