Mike Okoro8217;s outstanding performance helped Mohammedan Sporting record their first win in the ongoing I-League as they edged past Mahindra United 1-0 at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan YBK today.

Okoro netted the winner in the 74th minute outsmarting his marker NP Pradeep with a brilliant off the ball play.

He timed his run perfectly to meet a Jyothi Kumar lob inside the box and then chipped the ball over the head of an advancing Mahindra custodian Subhashis Roy Chowdhury. The goal has class written all over it.

The win gives the black-and-white brigade some breathing space ahead of their next five away ties.

They moved to five points from as many outings, while Mahindra stay on three.

The visitors began on an aggressive note and came very close to scoring in the seventh minute. But Steven Dias missed a sitter as his shot, off a Douhou Pierre floater went wide.

Edeh Chidi wasted another in the 20th minute. This time Dias set it up for the Nigerian but his header from inside the box was off the mark.

Md Sporting were struggling to find their footing. But they clawed their way back in last 20 minutes, thanks to a super show by Okoro. Without his partner Theodore Sunday, the onus was on him to make things happen. He rose to the occasion. His deft touches, splendid close control and incisive passing proved to be too much for the Mumbai outfit that has some top national team players like Pradeep and Dias.

Md Sporting8217;s young goalkeeper from Mizoram, Tungshang Tharangachan also deserves special praise for an outstanding show under the bar. Adebayo Adewusi too had a good game in the midfield.
