Four lanes or eight?
Sometime back when the Motilal Nehru School of Sports requested for an eight-lane synthetic track, they received a communication from a Sports Ministry official stating that an eight-lane 400 metres synthetic track could lead to muscle injuries to the runners! His reasons: training on the artificial track is strenuous. While one could dismiss the official has no idea of what he is saying, and may even possibly be concerned about the athletes8217; welfare. Yet, wonder of wonders, the same official then recommends a four-lane 400 metres synthetic track! So, do we surmise that athletes suffer injuries only on eight-lane synthetic track and not a four-lane track! So what should the MLN School do?
