‘Nowadays, everybody is a model’

All those who have had a brush with modelling, swear by the sheer competition in the field of glamour.

Some do it as a hobby and for others it is a serious profession. But, for all those who have had a brush with modelling, in one way or other, swear by the sheer competition of the field. Ashok Kumar of IndianExpress.com catches up with some of the aspiring models, walking down the ramp, at a model hunt in New Delhi.

Twenty-four year old Sanaa Oberoi, a graduate is all set to take a serious shot at modeling. Calling herself a deserving candidate for walking down the ramp, Sanaa informs that she was also a participant at the Gladrags Mega Model hunt.

“I feel, I deserve to be there (in modelling), because I have all which takes it to make a good model,” Sanaa emphasizes.

For twenty-three year old John, modelling has always been a passion. John, who wanted to be a model since his college days, says modelling gives him the proper platform to experiment in different ways. “I feel excited to pose,” he explains.

Twenty-seven year old Alma Hrustic, from Denmark wants to be in the modelling field because of her passion for travelling. Terming India as a haven for travellers, Alma says, being a part of the fashion world will ensure she gets to travel throughout the country.

Alma wants to step in the field of fashion to take the competition in her stride and also have some fun. “I love clothes and the glamour part of fashion attracts,” she adds.

Imshan Ali, 28, who is a software engineer, and wants to be an entrepreneur in future, started modelling as a hobby. Ali who claims to have got some film offers after some modelling assignments, feels that that there is no glamour left in modelling.

“The trend of modeling has changed. Now everybody is a model, so it has lost its glamour and the initial sheen,” explains Ali.

Talking about the exploitation of beginners who want to enter modelling, Imshan says, “Sometimes, well settled people take advantage of their position.”

Twenty-five year old Seher Tibb, from Srinagar, who holds a degree in English honours and is associated with the aviation industry as an airhostess, always wanted to be a model.

Seher, who eventually wants to join films, says, modelling gives you the platform to get noticed.

Seher feels that to make a mark in the fashion industry it is all about attitude. “I am walking the ramp as I always wanted to be in the glamour,” she confesses.

For twenty three year old Jimmy, modelling will earn him name and fame in life. Jimmy says that his confidence will help him achieve the right place in this field. “I have good height and good looks to make a mark in modelling,” he adds.
