Ahead of the final clash tomorrow, Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene has taken a cue from Sourav Ganguly8217;s successful ploy to unnerve the Australians.
Much to the annoyance of Ricky Ponting, the Sri Lankan captain turned up an hour late for a scheduled beach photo shoot with the Australian skipper and the Cup to promote tomorrow8217;s final, according to a media report here.
Ponting made the appointment despite having to travel with his team from St Lucia to Barbados and had to twiddle his thumb before Jayawardene arrived after attending a golf function, according to The Age.
8220;Bit late are you?8221; the report quoted Ponting as telling Jayawardene.
8220;I did not know about this, seriously,8221; Jayawardene said, blaming a communication breakdown and peak-hour traffic jam for his late arrival.
The report said the Australian skipper was not very happy with Jayawardene8217;s late showing. 8220;Given the amount of travel that had taken place, for the Australian captain to be left waiting for an hour with 100 mediapersons lining up on the beach and the sun going down was very unfortunate,8221; said an Australian team source.
Ganguly had kept hard-nosed Steve Waugh waiting for the toss on several occasions during Australia8217;s tour of India in 2001 which irked the then Australian skipper.
Australia and Sri Lanka share a bitter cricketing rivalry which dates back to 1995 when Muttiah Muralitharan was called for chucking by umpire Darrell Hair. Sri Lanka8217;s resting of their key bowlers8212;Chaminda Vaas, Muralitharan and Lasith Malinga for the Super Eights clash has also not gone down too well with Australia.
