NOIDA, April 22: Local BJP Member of Parliament (MP) Ashok Pradhan has been given a duplex flat on nominal rent by the NOIDA authority. This is in spite of the fact that there is no provision to this effect. He already has been allotted a bungalow in New Delhi.

The BJP Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Ravi Gautam has put a starred question in the UP Legislative Council asking the grounds of the allotment to Pradhan. The question is yet to be put on the floor of the House.

According to sources, Gautam has asked in his question: “Has the NOIDA authority allotted a flat worth Rs 1 crore to some public representative? Has that flat been sold off? If yes, for how much? Has the flat been give on rent? If yes, what are the rental charges?” Gautam has reportedly asked in his question that if the NOIDA authority had a scheme for the public representatives under which this flat has been allotted.

Officials confirmed that Pradhan has been given a flat on rent. The flat allotted to Pradhan is of Shivalik category. Shivalik flats are the most expensive residential property in NOIDA. Pradhan has been allotted flat number 93 which was so far being used as the NOIDA guest house. Pradhan, when contacted, admitted that he has been given a flat on rent. “I had written to the authority officials that to improve my interaction with the people of my constituency I should be allotted a place on reasonable rent. In response to that letter I was allotted this flat,” said Pradhan.

Interestingly, like other MPs, Pradhan has also been allotted a bungalow – 28 Mahadev Road, New Delhi.

Pradhan contends,“If officials can be allotted flats in NOIDA, why cannot I. After all I am an elected public representatives. The MPs and MLAs are being allotted flats in Ghaziabad. If that authority has a provision for us why not NOIDA authority”.

He said,“It does not matter how costly is the property or what rent am I paying. I am paying something between Rs 2,500 to Rs 2,000 for my NOIDA flat. Whereas, for the bungalow at Mahadev Road, which is at least 70 times costlier than the NOIDA flat, I am paying just Rs 200. You cannot refrain a public representative from meeting the people from his constituency”.

He added, “I do not know why it is being made an issue. There is nothing unusual. Even then, I will surrender the NOIDA flat if the party asked me to do so.”
