CHENNAI, JUNE 30: DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Tuesday said fresh elections to the Lok Sabha seemed inevitable as any alternative to the BJP Government at the Centre was not likely to be stable.

8220;We have difference of opinion with the BJP, but there has to be stability. Any government should last its full term to safeguard national interest and ensure that policies and schemes benefit the people,8221; he told media persons. If the BJP government falls, there would be a question mark over the country8217;s stability, and 8220;I feel sad about that8221;. Refusing to comment on the Congress expressing its willingness to form the government in the event of the BJP government collapsing, he welcomed Mulayam Singh Yadav and Laloo Prasad Yadav8217;s move to form a secular front. He, however, demanded that they reconsider and withdraw their allegations against the United Front.

On the question of support to a Congress-led government, Karunanidhi maintained he would abide by UF8217;s decision, andadded that UF constituents like CPM and CPI had voiced their individual opinion, and that of the UF.

To a query whether the DMK would, like West Bengal, shun the second visit by a fact-finding team, he said, 8220;Let them come and we will react then8221;.
