
PUNE, Dec 25: Two persons were injured while valuables worth Rs 1.09 lakh were stolen by dacoits from five houses at Pathare vasti near Lohegaon last night. One of the residents, Satishkumar Rameshwardayal Tiwari, made a daring attempt to resist the dacoits.
The dacoits, around ten, were armed with sticks, stones, and other sharp weapons. One of them had an airgun, a bow and arrow used by tribals. The dacoits earlier had made two attempts to attack houses in the remote areas of Waghmare vasti and Pawar vasti off the road to Vadgaon Shinde from Lohegaon. They later attacked a row of houses at Pathare vasti which is in an isolated area.
Tiwari, one of the residents, who was woken up at around 1 am by the sudden barking of dogs. He found that the doors of the house had been locked. He tried to reach the window when one of the dacoits broke the window panes. Others who were at the back of the house made attempts to break the doors and the windows.
One of the dacoits, tried to attack Tiwari with an arrow. Tiwari managed to evade the attack. He picked up the same arrow and hurled it at the dacoit who was injured. Meanwhile, one of the dacoits who had an air-rifle tried to hit Tiwari from the window. The front portion of the air-rifle broke as it hit the wall.
The dacoits between 20 to 30, wore shorts and had their faces covered with mufflers and monkey caps. They spoke in Hindi and Marathi. They broke into the houses of Shivaji Khandve, Pandurang Sonavne, Arvind Sonavne, and Jeevan Khandve. They managed to decamp with gold and silver ornaments, watches and cash. Tiwari and another woman Rukmini Khandwe were injured in the attack. Incidentally, a watchman of a private industrial unit had fired a round in the air to scare the dacoits in earlier attempts at Waghmare vasti and Pawar vasti.
