SURAT, July 13: The civic authorities have strongly denied that gastroenteritis has caused any death in the city.pIn a statement on Monday, deputy commissioner Health and Hospital R P Sinha, however, admitted that there had been spurt in gastro-enteritis cases in the South zone. A number of such cases have been detected in Meethikhadi area of Udhna zone over the past three days, he said, adding that the patients had been admitted to the Infectious Disease Hospital and New Civil Hospital.

Till last evening, 80 people were being treated in the two hospitals for gastro-enteritis. This morning, another 80 patients were admitted of whom 60 were sent back after first aid. Till this evening, 34 people were being treated.
