Playing down reports of political rapprochement with former Premier Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said there was 8220;no deal at all8221;. He insisted that he would not quit as army chief till the general elections, which he promised to hold as scheduled later this year.
8220;There8217;s no deal at all, no alliance, no deal8221; with Bhutto, Musharraf told Al-Arabia television in an interview.
And on Friday, an emissary of former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto met deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif to allay his fears over the rumoured deal. 8220;Benazir is the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and a genuine political leader who will never commit 8216;political suicide8217; by striking a deal with a military dictator,8221; senior leader Ghulam Mustafa Khar of Bhutto8217;s Pakistan People Party PPP told Sharif during the meeting in London.
The General meanwhile, said the general elections would be held by the end of the year in a fair and transparent manner, and any political action could be considered after viewing their outcome.
