
Singapore8217;s street circuit for this weekend8217;s inaugural nighttime Formula One Grand Prix received the green light from a host of drivers on Thursday.
Championship leader Lewis Hamilton and McLaren team mate Heikki Kovalainen along with Red Bull8217;s David Coulthard and Mark Webber all endorsed the city-state8217;s circuit and said they were eager to get cracking on the 5.067 kilometre track.
8220;It looks as though they have done a really good job,8221; Australian Webber said.
8220;I had thought there might be some bumpier sections because there is some reclaimed land but it looks great.
8220;I think the visibility looks like it is going to be really good8230; the most exciting thing for me is racing under the lights. It is going to look spectacular.8221;
Coulthard agreed. 8220;The track looks well groomed,8221; he said. 8220;I am looking forward to getting out there.8221;
Room to overtake
Finn Kovalainen was also full of praise. 8220;I think it looks great,8221; he said of the steel barrier-lined circuit. 8220;I ran it on Tuesday night when I got in.
8220;I think it will be an exciting race. It looks like there is room to overtake people. It should be a spectacular evening 8230;. and one which we are not used to.8221;
Briton Hamilton, who leads the standings with 78 points to Ferrari driver Felipe Massa8217;s 77, agreed with Kovalainen8217;s analysis. 8220;There is definitely room to overtake,8221; he nodded.
8220;We are going to be driving at 200 miles per hour at night with lights flashing in our eyes. That is what I am looking forward to the most.8221;
