Sanjiv Kumar is UT Legal Remembrancer
Sanjiv Kumar, Sub Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate, First Class, today took over as Legal Remembrancer of the UT Administration.He has also been promoted as Chief Judicial Magistrate. Sanjiv Kumar had joined the Administration in June, 1996. He has taken over from B. B. Prasoon who will be joining as Additional District and Sessions Judge at Gurgaon.

JTOA members hold demonstration
Members of the local Junior Telecom Officers Association held a demonstration outside the office of Principal General Manager, Telecom, Sector 18, here, this afternoon, to press for their demands. The demands include confirmation and sitting arrangement for JTOs, posting of additional Sub-Divisional Engineers (SDEs) and JTOs in the outdoor section, and shifting of SDEs, who were being posted in the same section, on promotion.

Army commissions 1st optical fibre link
The Army today commissioned its first optical fibre link, another hi-tech media connectivity for its backbone communication network, somewhere in the Western Sector. The optical fibre communication, according to defence sources, is immune to electromagnetic pulse and other effects of communication in a nuclear environment, unlike radiation media, which is also susceptible to interception and jamming, it was added.Sources added that the new link is capable of “handling a large number of channels” and providing services like speech, data and video.

328 scanned at free eye camp
About 328 people were screened during a free eye camp that was organised here today by Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Eye Hospital Sohana at Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib.During the camp free medicines were provided and the patients required to undergo surgery were reffered to the hospital.

Minor boy falls from roof
Bhupinder Singh, a seven-year-old boy, reportedly sustained multiple injuries after he fell from the roof of his house in Sector 23. He is currently admitted to the PGI, where his condition is stated to be serious, police sources said.

Woman robbed of gold earings
Some men struck in Panchkula here today, robbing a women of her gold earings after promising to treat her ailing daughter. The victim, Phulwati, discovered a one rupee coin instead of the earing upon opening the wrapper, handed over to her, at her residence.The duo had earlier inserted the earing in a bag on the pretext of chanting mantras and returned the wrapper to her. The thugs had also directed her to wear the earings after taking bath.They had meet the victim and her daughter in Sector 9 as they were returning home. A case has been registered and the police is investigating the matter.

Power men hold rally
On a call given by UT Powermen Union, the employees of the UT Electricity Department held a protest rally today before the Sector 40 electricity office in support of their long pending demands.These include PSEB scales and allowances to all and filling up of vacant posts by giving promotion to employees from the department.
