Chandigarh, Aug 25: The new body of the Panjab University Teachers8217; Association PUTA was elected to power today at the PU. While Prof P.P. Arya of the University Business School UBS was elected uncontested to the post of president, Dr Harjinder Singh Laltoo, won the elections for the post of secretary.

Laltoo polled 317 votes, while K Tankeshwar, the only other contender for the post, polled 214 votes. Fateh Singh Nandel was elected vice-president polling 338 votes, while K.P. Singh lost with 185 votes, official sources stated.

Kiranpreet Kaur was elected joint secretary polling 288 votes, while Nahar Singh lost, polling 241 votes. Keshav Malhotra has become the PUTA treasurer uncontested.

The list of the elected executive members includes Akshaya Kumar, D.R. Sharma, Raunki Ram, Satya P. Gautam, Amar Nath Gill, M.P. Sharma, M. Shyamala Devi, Promila Pathak, D.S. Toor, Ranbir Kaur, V.S. Chauhan, Sudhir Kumar and Ujaggar Singh.

Meanwhile, the outgoing secretary of PUTA, M. Rajivlochan, released the annual report of PUTA activities during 1998-99. PUTA has claimed credit for formation of the All-India Federation of University Teachers8217; Association, getting the release of DA due for over an year, implementation of the revised pay-scales. On the other hand, PUTA has accepted that it could not produce a computerised master list for house allotment or persuade the university to change its present rules concerning reimbursement of medical bills for women teachers.
