The NDA, if it comes to power at the Centre, will not hesitate to conduct a nuclear test if need arises, senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said.
“If the NDA comes to power it will not hesitate to conduct a nuclear test if such a need arises,” Sinha told reporters.
Asked whether the BJP would re-negotiate the Indo-US nuclear deal if it came to power after the next Lok Sabha elections, the former External Affairs minister said it would certainly do so.
“We will certainly re-negotiate it after going through the deal left by the UPA Government.
“The country is not going to get anything out of the nuclear deal. On the contrary, after its operationalisation, the country loses the right to conduct nuclear tests,” he said.
Criticising Union ministers Lalu Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan, and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for openly extending support to the banned SIMI, Sinha said “Our party is not against Muslims, but against those who are supporting terrorist groups openly.”
He said Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh’s support of Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor over legal aid for terror suspects is a serious issue.
The Vice Chancellor has said he would spend public funds to defend two university students, suspected of terror acts, in the court because they are innocent until proved guilty. The official deserves to be arrested for his comments, Sinha said.
