NEW DELHI, OCT 4: Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) president Kushabhau Thakre on Monday exuded confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government would complete a full five-year term if it came to power as “there will be no leader like Jayalalitha who has her own personal agenda.”

In an interview to Aaj Tak, he said the situation this time would be different now that all coalition partners were committed to the NDA. This time, he said, “our alliance partners do not have their personal agenda as Jayalalitha had in the previous coalition government”.

Thakre added that while Jayalalitha was eager to get rid of the corruption charges against her, the Vajpayee government held the view that the law should take its course with regard to the cases.

Pointed out that the Telugu Desam Party and Trinamool Congress had announced that they were not part of the NDA, the BJP president said, “Although they are not in the NDA, they are our supporting partners”.

About Janata Dal (United), Thakre said there would be no difficulty for the JD(U) to join the NDA as its partners were already members of the alliance.

Thakre described as the Congress’ claim that it would emerge as the single largest party as “day dreaming”. NDA would get an absolute majority and it would form the government led by Atal Behari Vajpayee, he asserted.

The NDA was formed much before the election and it had a common agenda on which its various constituents fought the election, he said. NDA was like a front in which certain parties were not its formal members, he added.

The elections had made it clear that the people were angry with those parties which brought down the Vajpayee government, he said. He hoped that instead of trying to create instability, political parties would now work in a more responsible manner.
