
CHANDIGARH, May 9: An all-round performance by Punjab Ranji Player Navdeep Singh 63 and 3 for 17 enabled Godrej Cricket Club to beat Democratic Youth Federation of India DYFI by 25 runs to enter the super league phase of the Chandigarh league cum-knock-out cricket tournament at the Punjab Engineering College here today.
The DYFI won the toss and elected to field. Opening batsmen Navdeep Singh 63 and Vaneet Chawla 57 were involved in a partnership of 192 runs. Navdeep scored 63 runs in 42 balls while Vaneet scored a hurricane 57 off 39 balls.
Kailash Samval also contributed 52 runs to the score, which came off just 41 balls. Godrej Club scored 193 runs in the allotted 25 over.
In reply DYFI fell short of target by 25 runs.
In another match fine batting by Ajay enabled Pace XI to beat Shine Star CC by 125 runs.
In other league matches, Phoenix CC got a walkover from Dynamic CC and 3 BRD XI got walkover from Kalsi CC.

Trekking expedition
More than one hundred students from various schools of the city took part in the trekking expedition, which was flagged off today by Surinder Singh Virdi, president, Gaini Zail Singh Institute of Adventure and Water Sports, from Government School in Sector-18. The students will trek from Kalka to Kausali.
The event is being organised as a part of the third Gaini Zail Singh Adventure Sports Festival.
Earlier, cycley rally and long distance swimming was organised for the students. The prize distribution function will he held on May 12.
