Suspended cop selected for training course
The superintendent of Nashik jail, Ram Jadhav, has been selected by the outgoing State Government for the Criminals and Human Rights8217;training programme to be held in Delhi from October 25 to 29.
The Government obviously does not have an inkling about the fact that Jadhav had been suspended. If nothing, the order reveals chaos in the Home ministry headed by the outgoing deputy chief minister Gopinath Munde.
Munde had paid a surprise visit to Nashik jail about a year ago and found that some cells had been illegally renovated. A probe was ordered and later a report implicating some jail officials, was submitted. Munde had chosen to shelve it till Chief Minister Narayan Rane visited the jail, a week before the counting of votes began and three days later after the last cabinet meeting of his Government announced action against some jail officials, including Jadhav.
Despite the announcement, Jadhav who stood suspended was nominated for the trainingin Delhi. The whole episode revealed some serious communication gap at the highest level of administration. Jadhav, meanwhile is finding it difficult to make out whether the episode is a compliment or an insult. He says that the suspension came in as a shock because he had himself intimated his higher-ups about the illegalities done by his predecessors. But if the government has prima facie evidence to take punitive action against him, and has acted accordingly, then Jadhav is the last person who needs a course in criminals and human rights as he is well aware of criminal8217;s rights and favours.
Cellphone identifies owner
A few days ago, a person travelling in his Maruti Zen car MH 12 PA 8721 from Pune to Nashik met with a fatal accident, as he lost control over his vehicle and rammed into a tree near Nandurshingote village near Sinnar.
Villagers and passersby removed him to a hospital and he was later shifted in a critical condition to another hospital. Subsequently, he died. The policecontacted the RTO to identify the victim from his vehicle registration number.
Meanwhile, the mobile phone which the victim was carrying rang. The doctor attending on him answered the phone and asked the caller to identify the victim.
Great expectations
The new chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and his deputy Chhagan Bhujbal may not be as sure of ruling the State for a full term and do what they wanted to, as their fans and followers in Nashik. With the change of guard, Congress workers and supporters of those who have been elected to the Assembly on Congress and NCP tickets, have been making wild guesses and some of them are camping in Mumbai already with the hope of having their pound of flesh. Congress workers, who used to spend their time in gossiping at their favourite places, are all missing, probably busy in getting a few crumbs of power. Well, like leader like supporters.
