CHANDIGARH, MARCH 14: Bickerings in the city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party came to the fore as BJP general secretary and party spokesman M. Venkaiah Naidu visited the city today.

Rival camps, led by local party chief Dharam Pal Gupta and MP Satya Pal Jain lobbied hard to dominate BJP workers meeting to impress Naidu.

However, Naidu remarked, quot;It is unfortunate that indiscipline has come to the fore in Chandigarh BJP. But I can not do anything about it. Only the BJP incharge for Chandigarh can deal with this authentically. But I think, the party high-command is already trying for a patch-up in BJP rank and file here.quot;

Seven BJP councillors, who were expelled from the BJP during Mayor8217;s election, including Mayor Kewal Krishan Adiwal also met Naidu at the UT Guest House, but to hear the same comment. They were reportedly sidelined at the Railway station too where they went to receive him, along with other BJP workers.

In fact, the party bickerings surfaced badly at the workers meeting. Dharam Pal Gupta, in his speech, pointed fingers at Satya Pal Jain8217;s role in triggering rebellion. Jain retorted, quot;It is not a right step to speak about internal party matters at an open workers meeting.quot; Later, talking to mediapersons Naidu said that a tough Governor was needed in Bihar. He said, quot;Sunder Singh Bhandhari was tough but he felt uncomfortable with the Rabri Devi government making personal attacks on him.quot; He added that Bhandari was shifted from Bihar on his own request. He opined that Bihar should go to polls as early as possible. quot;The President8217;s rule was just a stop-gap arrangement.quot;

The BJP leader was here in connection with the BJP8217;s nation-wide programme to highlight achievements of the BJP-led government its year-long rule.

On the ongoing Akali Dal infighting, Naidu said, quot;The BJP does not want the Akalis to split. Still, we can not poke our nose into the internal affairs of Akali Dal, unless the Akali leaders want the BJP to intervene.quot; He said none of the Akali leaders have approached BJP on this so far.
