8226; As a resident of Uttar Pradesh, I feel ashamed at the murder of 27-year-old IIM graduate Manjunathan. I offer my condolences to the bereaved family. The young man cannot be brought back but the perpetrators of the crime must be punished in a manner that others are deterred from committing such heinous crimes in future. Those responsible must not be allowed to take advantage of the loopholes in the law.

Signal to Taliban

8226; Outrage and grief by our prime minister at the ghastly murder of Maniyappan in Afghanistan is not enough. We need to send some strong signals to the Taliban, which would assure protection to Indians working in that country.

Mandal reloaded

8226; Great intellectuals had predicted the Mandal upsurge much before it happened in 1990. This upsurge was inevitable as society can8217;t go on in feudal ways. We should welcome the Bihar verdict as this upsurge has been taken forward into its next phase. The 8220;strange8221; coalition of upper castes and extremely backward castes which didn8217;t have a voice earlier, is welcome. This shows the maturing of Indian democracy. Laloo Yadav also deserves credit as he didn8217;t allow the Mandal upsurge to be rolled back, as it was in Uttar Pradesh.

In a new Bihar

8226; With Nitish Kumar becoming the new king of Bihar and Laloo Prasad Yadav being ousted after a misrule of 15 long years, Biharis can now sigh with relief. Bihar being the most underdeveloped and underprivileged state of India, has barely seen any growth under the 8220;social justice8221; slogan. Nitish Kumar will have to construct a new Bihar with new policies, new priorities, new governance and new wisdom. It is very important to bring Bihar back on the track of development and success by ensuring that the fruits of development reach the downtrodden.

No witch hunts

8226; As soon as they come to power, Indian politicians have the tendency to malign the previous government and instigate action against members of the previous regime on some pretext or other. Time and again it has been proved to be a waste of effort and resources as is highlighted by the dismal record of convictions. The new Bihar CM should only focus on improving the lot of the people.

Role model Rahul

8226; When it comes to leading by example, Rahul Dravid is as good as one can possibly get 8216;The team that Dravid made8217;, November 24.
He is one of the fittest India cricketers in the recent past. The regularity with which Rahul Dravid performed the wicket-keeper8217;s role in one day internationals speaks volumes for his dedication towards the team, and his adaptability, which is a testimony to his physical fitness apart from his famed temperament. The way he has adapted to handling the middle overs while batting in the ODIs, is phenomenal. It8217;s a precedent for rash and nervy youngsters.
