A career in films was the farthest thing from Shilpa Shetty8217;s mind when she got her first movie offer. quot;I was just about 17, and busy enjoying college life, quot; she remembers. All along, the long-legged beauty had planned on becoming a businesswoman. quot;My father had his own business and I was keen on working with him, quot; she says. And although she had already got her portfolio made, she insists that she didn8217;t have anything definite in mind. Then, six years ago, Baazigar happened. quot;I was supposed to do another movie before that, which got shelved. And I only agreed to do this film because it came to me on a platter. I like to call it chance or destiny because I didn8217;t have to approach anyone for work, quot; says she.

Instead, the Jain brothers of Venus came to her and offered her the role of Kajol8217;s sister and Shah Rukh Khan8217;s girlfriend. And although Shilpa gets bumped off halfway through the film, her role was meaty enough to get her instant notice and innumerable offers. quot;Shah Rukh was my idol. I8217;d seen both him and Kajol on screen as part of the audience. And here I was working with them. It was a great experience and of course, the recognition I got was heart-warming,quot; she says. And once Baazigar clicked, there was no turning back for Shilpa who promptly put away her books and plunged headlong into the big bad world of Bollywood.

Then came Main Khiladi Tu Anadi, her second huge hit and her on-screen romance with Akshay Kumar was a big hit with the masses. Today, after five eventful years, her off screen romance with the same hunk, is generating the same headlines. Shilpa, however, would prefer to be written about after her forthcoming films 8212; Lal Badshah and Pardesi Babu 8212; are released.
