SURAT, May 7: A musical evening was organised by Surat Municipal Corporation SMC and Information department of the State government at Rang Upvan on Wednesday night as part of Asmita Week8217; celebrations which began on May 1.

Artists, folk artists and musicians from Surat as well as Mumbai took part in the programme in front of an appreciative audience.

Speaking after the concluding day8217;s function, mayor Navneet Jariwala said that the programmes were well received by Surtis.

The week began with a presentation of Dhara Gurjari8217;, a raas-garba performed by Nupur and a Dangi dance on Gujarat8217;s Foundation Day. The poems of Bhagwatikumar Sharma, Zaverchand Meghani, Ravjibhai Patel, Asim Randeri, Manhar Choksi and Dr Raiees Maniar were also recited during the evenings festivities. The programme was compered by administration officer of LIC, Naresh Kapadia.

The chairman of SMC Standing Committee Natubhai Patel, BJP party leader in SMC Fakirbhai Chauhan and Director of Town Planning R D Desai, also spoke after the concluding day8217;s programme.
