
One key witness is still missing, two mystery deaths are yet to be explained and the CBI says the trial in what it calls the murder-for-robbery case should begin 8216;8216;any time8217;8217; now. And charges will be framed against the three accused in the Satyendra Dubey murder case, says CBI-appointed special prosecutor, L R Ansari.
CBI officials said the trial is expected to commence formally in a week8217;s time in a Patna sessions court.
The agency expects a speedy trial claiming confessional statements from the four accused and the recovery of the murder weapon and Dubey8217;s belongings, including his identity card.
The CBI chargesheet filed in September against three accused8212;Manto Kumar, Uday Kumar and Pinku Ravidas8212;was committed for trial before the Additional Districts and Sessions Judge-4 here on October 20.
The three accused and an accomplice-turned-approver, Shrawan Kumar, are currently in judicial custody in Beur jail. According to the chargesheet filed before CBI special judge Sanjay Kumar Singh, Dubey was stopped by the gang of four8212;as he was returning home from the Gaya railway station8212;who wanted to rob him.
The NHAI engineer gave up his wallet without protest but resisted when the gang tried to snatch his briefcase, the chargesheet said. The briefcase contained personal details and photographs of his sister whose marriage he was keen to finalise, states the chargesheet filed under sections 394, 302 and 39 of the IPC and 27 of the Arms Act.
The mysterious bomb explosion at the murder site has been explained by the CBI as a knee-jerk reaction from the gang, which panicked when Dubey resisted them. They exploded a crude bomb before shooting Dubey and fleeing the place with the suitcase and the wallet, the chargesheet says.
