The recent terror attacks are a reflection of our failed system, which in turn is a reflection of its failed citizens8212; us. Having said that, we should be indebted to all the forces, including the police officers and the commandos who have bravely brought this crisis to an end. This was not only an attack on Mumbai or India. This was an attempt to psychologically wound every Indian. This should not be forgiven or forgotten and our retaliation should be strong, swift and efficient so that no terrorist ever looks at India again, let alone terrorising it. These attacks have exposed the gaping holes in our basic security systems. This just showed that the terror forces are one step ahead of us.
Mubin Solkar
Lawyer has appeared for several terror accused
It8217;s a barbaric act. The lone accused arrested has been caught on camera and watched by the entire nation and by senior police officials, going on a killing spree and taking hostages at three places. The only terrorist arrested should be given a quick and stern judicial action, which would send a strong no-entry signal to all anti-national elements conspiring to carry out terror acts in India
Datta Iswalkar
Textile workers8217; leader
The system has failed us. Had the state government taken adequate measures, 200 Mumbaikars wouldn8217;t have lost their lives. The politicians took the spirit of Mumbai and tolerance of citizens for granted.

Steps I would have taken, if I was the Home Minister during and after terrorist attacks: I would immediately release all the commandos protecting me and other politicians in Mumbai for immediate action. I would take personal responsibility for the attacks and release all the commandos providing Z category security to politicians and depute them for public security. I would not visit the attack site during the operation, instead allow my specialists a full, free and uninterrupted hand in combat.
I would root out corruption at every level making terrorist attacks impossible. I would strengthen the police and security force with training and latest gadgetry, arms, ammunition and communication equipment. I would ensure that the police force feels free and fearless in taking tough decisions without political interference. I would introduce a right to record any official communication and interaction in any public place. This could help root out corruption and punish the corrupt officials. I would publicise the right to not vote and record the no votes making it possible to return candidates with criminal background unelected. The choice of candidates available to public is so pathetic and definitely not fit for the positions they vie for.

Ignoring intelligence was criminal. It shows the lackadasical attitude of our security personnel making a mockery of the very reason they are employed and paid for. Like a patient consults only a good and successful doctor, likewise a top general should be in-charge of homelands security. Political parties should take a leaf from Obama8217;s book retaining a republican Robert Gates as their security advisor. Time has come and the situation demands that our country should be run by professionals only.
