
MUMBAI, February 14: Hosts Mumbai crushed Baroda by 99 runs in their last league match to win the inaugural West Zone Under-14 cricket tournament at the Karnataka Grounds here today.
The heroes of the Mumbai victory were opening batsman Soham Dalvi, who slammed a fine 102 off 95 balls hitting 12 fours and two sixes and medium pacer Paul Valthuty (five for 40) and spinner Mayank Dayal (four for 20).
Baroda put the home team into bat first after winning the toss. Dalvi along with his skipper Vinit Indulkar (69 off 74 balls including seven fours) added 138 for the second wicket to boost their total to 278 for five off their 40 overs.
Though, Baroda’s middle order batsman Tejasvi Singh slammed a fighting 100 off 113 balls including 12 fours, the visitors could make only 179 before being all out. Mumbai kept their slate clean to garner eight points in the tourney where five teams are in fray.
In the other match at the RCF grounds Maharashtra beat Gujarat by a single wicket. Gujarat were bowled out for apaltry 148 off 37 overs and Maharashtra reached the target losing nine wickets.
