Mumbai, November 14: The Mumbai Racing season 2000-01 is set to take off from the 16th of this month. The longest season in the country, will span over 5 months and will end in April 2001. 55 race days including five special days provide the same hectic schedule that Mumbai is known for.
The main track looks lush green. The All Weather Track looks much better than it did last season and appears ready to host few races. The equines have started their journey towards Mumbai with most having settled comfortably in their respective stables.
The morning workouts haven’t really seen the numbers and it is evident that the first day will reflect the same. Top-weight owners Dr. MAM Ramaswamy, Deepak Khaitan and Vijay Mallya have in their possession good prodigies who are a cut above the others. However, the last named looks to dominate this season and will have a lion’s share in big races, especially the Classics.
Legendary Rashid Byramji and son Darius hold the aces with some of the country’s best horses being reined by them. Chavelier, Six Speed, Allaire, San Egale and Arrakis who have been under the care of the duo will blaze the tracks in Mumbai. From the RWITC, champion trainer Dallas will again lock horns with Sunderji as they have some good juveniles. They however, will have to overcome the guiles of hard working Imtiaz Sait who can upset all calculations.
Numero Unos of riding will be seen regularly in action this season unlike the disappointment in Pune and it is a clear indication that the big races will indeed be a contest of skill. Pesi Shroff, Aslam Kader, Mallesh Narredu will be there to exhibit their riding prowess while C Rajendra who has been crowned the Champion jockey for the last three seasons will again look to retain the status. Young Aadesh Kumar will be another prodigy to watch. But the man of the moment B Prakash who has so successfully ridden winners last couple of months will no doubt be the sensation. And then the arrival of the foreign jockeys will also add glamour to the competition.
Among the horses that need following Affilado, Amorous Warrior, Celestial Light, Cryptonite, Duke Of Albany, Final Recovery, Great Pasha, Grey Area, Heaven’s Feel, Inquisition, Khushnaseeb, Millennium King, Nuclear Power, Power Surge, Raise A Toast, Rapallo, Right Arrow, Simply Noble, Son Of Spartacus, Stavros, Storm Again, Summeroffourtytwo and Zosyn will definitely be up there.
