
Contractor held in Grant Road bldg collapse case
MUMBAI: A building contractor was arrested in connection with Friday8217;s building crash that claimed two lives in Central Mumbai. Police said on Saturday that the contractor, Faroque Padiwala, was arrested on charges of negligence. He was later released on a cash bond of Rs 5,000. Two persons were killed and four others injured when the five-storeyed building on the busy junction of Grant Road and Charni Road caved in.
Two attacked in office at Dockyard: Four unidentified assailants barged into the office of a chartered accountant, C B Agarwal, at Bharat Chamber, Carnac Bunder near Dockyard on Saturday afternoon. Two them had choppers, while the other two carried country-made revolvers. When their demand for cash was turned down, they fired two rounds in the air. Agarwal and his son tried to pin them down but the assailants attacked them with choppers and escaped. Agarwal, 47, and his son, 21, were rushed to Bombay Hospital where they were pronounced out of danger. The police is investigating the case.
quot;Trigger-happyquot; constable injures self: A police constable, Rane, was injured when he accidentally pulled a pistol trigger, injuring himself in the stomach and leg. Shiv Sena MLA Bal Nargaonkar had handed over his revolver to the police constable after a meeting at Kohinoor Institute in Dadar. Rane was admitted to Sushrusha Hospital where doctors extricated the bullet.
