
LIC observes security month
THE Life Corporation of India is celebrating October as Social Security Month and is promoting various welfare schemes for handicapped people.A seminar was recently organised on this theme at Yogakshema. Apart from representatives of various non governmental organisations NGOs, C M Tribhuvan, District Social Welfare and Employment Officer and Dr C D Mohanti, high ranking official of the union Labour Ministry, participated in the seminar.
Film screenings for children
AVEHI, an audio-visual resource centre, will hold a Film Mela8217; for children in the age group of nine to 14 fromOctober 12 to 14. Educative and entertaining films, including the Charlie Chaplin series, will be screened for Rs five. Meet to protest attacks on Christians
The Bombay Catholic Sabha is to hold a public meeting to highlight the sinister designs of those attempting to antagonise the Christian community and incite communal passions in Hindus and Christians8217;. The attacks on Christians by fundamentalist groups in recent months is the focus of the meet. Archbishop Ivan Dias, activist Teesta Setalvad, intellectual Asghar Ali Engineer and former Bharatiya Janata Party legislator MadhuDeolekar will be the main speakers at the function, to be held on October 13.
Dadar8217;s own list of professionals
With a view to helping residents of Dadar, Arun Vedak has prepared a list of professionals in the area as part of a project called Dadar Grahak Mitra. The list will include other details like mentions of hospitals and other emergency services in the city. According to Vedak, doctors, technicians, plumbers, lawyers, and architects can place their advertisements free of cost in the list. While this list is limited to Dadar, the experiment, if successful, will be extended to other parts of Mumbai. Vedak has appealed to professionals in Dadar to register their names in the list.
