
Workshop on health rights
In an effort to create public awareness on health rights, the University of Mumbai will hold a two-day workshop on Human Rights and Medical Ethics from February 7 at its Fort campus.
The workshop, which will be inaugurated by vice-chancellor Dr Snehalata Deshmukh, will be addressed by various luminaries in the medical field like Dr Sunil Pandya, Dr Pritam Phatnani and Dr Subhash Salunke. For registrations contact Dr Nawaz B Mody on 6193175 Ext 324 and 325.
Maternity home
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC has announced the temporary closure of the dilapidated Municipal Maternity Home at Naigaum from January 20, 1998. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of patients and staff during repairs to the building, a press-note said.
Student festival
Chaitanya-98 will be held at the SDT Kalani College, Ulhasnagar, on January 26-27. The two-day youth festival will be attended by various city colleges and is partly organised by the University of Mumbai.
Literary award
Recommendations have been invited for the Yashwantrao Chavan Literacy Award8217;, which will be conferred on individuals or organisations for meritorious service in the field of literacy and social development.

Pulse polio
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC has declared its Pulse Polio Immunisation drive in Mumbai a 8220;cent percent8221; success. Statistics released reveal that 10,67,676 children below 5 years were administered the second dose through 6,707 immunisation centres. The exercise cost the municipal exchequer Rs 1.35 crore. The first phase in December 7, 1997 also received similar success, said a press-note.
