A day after 22-year-old Orissa youth Avinash Patnaik allegedly committed suicide in the flat of his former girlfriend after killing her mother and uncle, Additional Commissioner of Police Archana Tyagi said it is an 8220;open-and-shut case8221; for the police.
8220;However, we have to fill in the details and follow up on all angles to prove the sequence of events. The investigation is now directed towards the pistol used by Patnaik as we have found that it was unlicenced.8221;
While the final statements of both the fathers are yet to be recorded, the police said it seems a failed love affair led Patnaik to commit such a crime.
8220;Patnaik8217;s father told us that his son had left Angul on the morning of November 21, and met him at Sambalpur. He told his father that he was going to Rourkela for some business-related work,8221; said K T Sonone, senior police inspector, Oshiwara police station.
The police are now waiting for the forensic reports. Sonone said that questioning of Moon Das8217;s neighbours revealed that he was not a stranger there and was often seen with her.
As the firing took place inside a closed house, the only two persons who had seen the pistol in Patnaik8217;s hands are Das and her friend, Romesh Sharma, Sonone said.
Meanwhile, Das refused to talk to the media on Saturday after finishing the formalities at JJ Hospital where she had come to collect her mother8217;s body.
