20 injured in bus mishap
Twenty persons were injured when the luxury bus in which they were travelling fell into a ditch on the Mumbai-Panvel road near Mankhurd early this morning. The bus, run by Ratna Travels, was heading towards Mumbai when a truck tried to overtake it. In his attempt to give the truck more space, the bus driver swerved to the extreme left. The vehicle ended up in a ditch after colliding with an electric pole. The incident took place at the Tata power station junction adjacent to the new Mankhurd bridge, according to the fire brigade. The injured were admitted to Shatabdi Hospital at Chembur and Sion Hospital.

Man dies in Dadar shootout
A 30-year-old man died after gunmen opened fire outside a restaurant at Dadar E on Saturday evening. Police said Sheikh Kalam Kasam was standing outside Madina Hotel on Dadasaheb Phalke Road at 8.45 pm when three unidentified men arrived in a Maruti 800 van and fired three rounds at him. With bullets lodged in his chest and neck,Kasam was rushed to KEM Hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit. However, he succumbed at around 1.30 am on Sunday. Bhoiwada police are checking Kasam8217;s antecedents. While the motive behind the shooting is not known, police are looking into possible links with the underworld. Phalke Road is a known hideout of gangsters belonging to the Dawood gang.

Woman raped, murdered
A 22-year-old woman was raped and murdered inside a marble factory at Borivli W on Sunday night. The murder came to light when the owner of Chandrakant Marble Company at Shimpoli Road opened his premises at 9.15 am. The body was found in a pool of blood with a large marble stone resting on her left leg. Police also recovered condoms near the body. The woman lived near the marble company and worked as a labourer, police said. A case of murder and rape has been registered under Sections 302 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code.
