2 businessmen shot dead in Thane

February 2: Two Dahisar-based businessmen were shot dead and two persons seriously injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire at them near Kashimira in Thane this morning. Thane rural police said the shootout took place at around 11.30 am at Hadkias under the jurisdiction of Kashimira police station. Eyewitnesses told the police that five unidentified men came in a white Maruti car bearing the number plate BLB 7007 and opened fire at the businessmen indiscriminately. While three gunmen opened fire, two others stood by. The assailants then quickly escaped from the scene of crime. The dead have been identified as Asmat Gulam Rasool Patel (42) and Mohideen Mustafa Halwe (25), both Dahisar residents.

1 burnt to death

An unidentified person was burnt to death in a fire that broke out in Indira Nagar Slum at First Burry Road, Sewri, on Monday afternoon.

Police sources said the fire broke out at 2.30 pm and was brought under control at 3.15 pm. A policeofficer at the Sewri police station said around 150 small hutments were damaged in the fire, and the body of the deceased was charred beyond recognition.
