MUMBAI, JANUARY 19: The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Wednesday condemned The Times of India for inclusion of former prime minister Indira Gandhi, AICC president Sonia Gandhi and her daughter Priyanka in the list of the `100 sexiest women of the century’.

“We want an apology from the paper and deletion of the contest entries from the website with immediate effect,” MPCC president Prataprao Bhosale told a press meet adding, “It’s unfortunate that the Times of India chose to run such a contest.”

The paper, in its January 16 edition, had carried an article on its front page, titled “Meri eyes bhi sexy, mera pout bhi sexy” giving a list of 100 sexiest Indian women of the century chosen in a reader-poll.

Meanwhile, a group of Congress workers, including the Minister of State for Health Eknath Gaikwad, burnt copies of the national daily protesting the list of `100 sexiest Indian women’.

The agitators stormed the newspaper’s office along College Road and ransacked the office.Later the protestors, including Mayor Dr Shobha Bachhav and the minister raised slogans and burnt copies of the Sunday issue of the newspaper. They stated that the list was an insult to the party’s female leaders and was in bad taste.

Some Congress workers managed to extract an apology from the local branch manager of the newspaper for the impugned list list which was a result of a poll taken among its readers.
