Gone are the days when youngsters wanted 007 on the number plates of their two wheelers. Today, Bond has lost to the Russia-made machine guns, AK-47 and AK-57. Following closely are the numbers 303, a rifle, and 302, the IPC section dealing with murder.

These numbers may have nothing to do with luck but they definitely add a lot of power to the personalities of the individuals who sport them on their number plates. This became clear at the Road Transport Office’s (RTO) two-day drive for the filling up of the tender forms for numbers in the recently introduced series GJ-3AJ and GJ-AK, where police resorted to lathicharge after people started fighting over their favourite numbers.

‘‘The numbers 47 and 57 in the AK series have generated tremendous demand,’’ said V. Bhatt, PRO of the RTO office. ‘‘The rush for these two numbers in the two series can be defined as nothing else but madness. The situation went out of control during the filling of tenders of these numbers and police had to get into action,’’ Bhatt added.
