CHANDIGARH, Aug 1: It has become an all-pervasive theme and everyday we come across one activity or the other associated with this new found obsession. The art world has been quite active here and this evening some more canvases went up on the gallery walls that took the viewers to Kargil. And the water colours came from Ravinder Sharma.

The exhibition at the Indus Ind Art Gallery in Sector 8 was unique in its inauguration for we saw and heard a former close associate of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose reminiscing his days in the jungles of Malaya and his imprisonment in the Red Fort. Bachan Singh Thandi was a commandant with the Indian National Army and ever since his release, has been actively involved in social work in his village Daulatpur in Nawanshahar district.

Sharma’s works are accompanied by couplets and they enhanced the emotional appeal of each. Like the painting showing a martyr’s widow cradling her son which has these lines, Is des ko rakhna mere bachche sambhal ke. Though one wished for a better colour scheme that could lift up the theme to its sublime height, Sharma did succeed in stirring up the emotions in an already charged mindset.
