Moores appointed England coach

England and Wales Cricket Board today appointed Peter Moores as the new coach after Duncan Fletcher resigned in the wake of the team8217;s World Cup debacle. The ECB made the appointment in less than 24 hours after Fletcher resigned from the post yesterday.

England and Wales Cricket Board today appointed Peter Moores as the new coach after Duncan Fletcher resigned in the wake of the team8217;s World Cup debacle. The ECB made the appointment in less than 24 hours after Fletcher resigned from the post yesterday.

8220;He Moores will take up the post from the start of next month for the visit of the West Indies for a Test and one-day series,8221; ECB chief executive David Collier said.

8220;ECB has developed a contingency and succession plan for all key management positions. Peter has been identified for some time as a leading candidate as a future England head coach,8221; he said .

Collier said Moores as innovative and inspiring and was an ideal replacement of Fletcher. 8220;He led Sussex to domestic success and is one of the highest qualified coaches in world cricket. He has worked since 2005 with the National Academy programme and has led tours with the England A Team.

8220;He is highly respected as an innovative and inspiring coach and is an ideal person to accept this appointment,8221; he added.

Collier said Moores would especially work on building a one-day team in view of the 2011 World Cup. Moores said he was excited about his new assignment. 8220;It is an honour to have been appointed as England head coach and to succeed Fletcher, who has been an outstanding coach ,8221; he said.
