VADODARA, Aug 27: With the recent spell of rains, water levels in almost all the rivers in Panchmahals, Bharuch and Vadodara in Central Gujarat swelled further on Thursday. But situation at none of the 12 main dams and rivers areas was, however, said to be alarming.

Official authorities told Express Newsline that vigil at Ajwa and Dhanora ponds in the Vadodara district and Vanakbori in Panchmahals, had been intensified after the water level started rising substantially. They said the Ajwa pond was at 64.16 mt, danger-mark of which was 64.30 mt, Dhanora was at 62.16 metre danger mark of 62.19 mt while Vanakbori had risen to 224 feet danger mark of 233 feet.

Water level at all other dams and rivers were much below the danger mark, they said, adding that there was hardly metre-deep water in the Vishwamitri danger mark 7.92 metre. Dev Dam had 86.60 metre 90.15 metre, Sukhi, 142.80 feet 148.3 ft, Rami, 189.1 ft 197 ft, Kadana, 318 ft 419 ft and Panam, at 406 ft 418 ft, they added.

Vadodara district officials and District Superintendents of Police of Bharuch and Panchmahals, Ashish Bhatia and Manoj Agrawal respectively, told Express Newsline that special vigil was being maintained at their respective areas, namely, Narmada and Dadhar rivers Bharuch and Vanakbori and Kadana dams Panchmahals, though the situation was 8220;quite normal there so far.8221;

According to them, a vigil was necessary as dozens of villages get cut off following increase in the water levels in these rivers and reservoirs.

Meanwhile, almost all the talukas of Vadodara received good amount of rainfall, even as rains were forecast in several parts of the Central and South Gujarat during the next 48 hours.

The weather officials said that Karjan recorded 93 mm rain on Thursday till evening total rainfall till date 967 mm, Jetpurapavi had 2 mm 573 mm, Dabhoi, 83 mm 969 mm, Naswadi, 29 mm 485 mm, Padra, 30 mm 285 mm, Vadodara 6 mm 632 mm, Vaghodia, 20 mm 700 mm Savli, 33 mm 646 mm, Sinnor, 2 mm 567 mm, Sankheda 2 mm 597 mm and Kwant, 5 mm 350 mm. Chhotaudepur which has so far had 463 mm rainfall did not record rains since the past 24 hours ending at 5.30 pm.
