While many cricket enthusiasts still fail to understand why former India stumper Nayan Mongia is out in the wilderness, the man himself remains as bewildered as he has been for the past few years.

8216;8216;I am trying my best,8217;8217; he told The Indian Express, and talks about how he is still trying his best for Baroda in the domestic circuit to make the national team. 8216;8216;That is my immediate priority. I am desperate to wear the India cap again and nothing exceeds that.8217;8217;

Keeping in mind the current contenders, the veteran Baroda gloveman8217;s case is clearly a strong one. But, 8216;8216;I don8217;t know. I8217;m just trying to give it my best shot. The rest is all up to the selectors. They have not been communicative enough. I don8217;t know what else to do,8217;8217; he says.

The man has been embroiled in controversies down the years, all of which have been discussed a number of times. But controversies aside, few would disagree that Mongia has been India8217;s best.

8216;8216;Yes,8217;8217; he says, when asked whether he has spoken to anyone in the establishment. 8216;8216;Everyone keeps saying that I have been doing well and have always been the best.8217;8217;

The selectors8217; current favourite, Parthiv Patel, has been patchy Down Under, highlighting the fact serious thought needs to be given to the issue before the Pakistan tour. The mystery surrounding Mongia, however, remains, and the onus rests with the selectors to clear the air.
