Manipur limped back to normalcy on Sunday after two continuous days of unrest following the state government8217;s decision to suspended all five police commandos, including an SI, linked to the arrest and alleged torture and molestation of schoolteacher M Naobi Chanu on February 21 in Thoubal. Police said the day passed off without any untoward incidents.

Responding to the public outcry over the issue with a raft of transfers, the Manipur government has decided to transfer Thoubal SP E Priyokumar. According to sources, his place will be taken by Bishnupur district SP S Ibomcha. Thoubal Additional SP Jayanta will hold charge in the interim period, according to an order issued by the under secretary, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reform.

According to the order, Priyokumar has been transferred as the Commanding Officer-in-Charge of 8 Manipur Rifles Battalion and CO in-charge of VI Manipur Rifles.

According to police sources, the government has suspended five Thoubal police commandos 8212; one Sub-Inspector, three constables and a rifleman, who picked up Naobi from the residence of slain PLA cadre Th Bikash. Thoubal Deputy Commissioner P Vaiphei, who is investigating the case, has also issued a notice to all concerned to come forward with their versions on or before March 8.
