
The audience for the Shahrukh Khan-starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi at Centra Mall on Monday witnessed more action than they had bargained for. A surprise mock drill, which saw nearly 200 people being evacuated by firefighters, left the viewers stunned.
The Fire and Emergency Services Committee of the Municipal Corporation organised the drill without informing the staff of the mall or the fire personnel. Chairman of the Fire and Emergency Services Committee MPS Chawla, councillors Harjinder Kaur and Gurcharan Dass Kalaa, Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria, Joint Commissioner TPS Phoolka, Additional Commissioner P K Sharma and Chief Fire Officer S K Gosain were also present on the occasion.
Following the call of a fire breakout, fire brigades were rushed to the spot. An announcement was made in the movie hall about the emergency and the people were evacuated with the help of security personnel. Some were even evacuated using hydraulic turn table ladders.
Councillor MPS Chawla said: 8220;The aim of the exercise was to see the preparedness of the staff at the mall as well as the fire services. In the wake of the recent terror attacks, it is important that our personnel are well prepared for any emergency. The drill was conducted smoothly and there was no panic. The audience was also very co-operative.8221;
Chief Fire Officer S K Gosain added the decision to conduct the drill was taken in a meeting of the Fire and Emergency Services Committee. 8220;More drills will be conducted in the future in government buildings, school auditoriums and other places which see mass gathering.8221;
During the hour-long drill, the film was interrupted for around 15 minutes. The audiences were, meanwhile, treated with soft drinks by the Municipal Corporation.
Mock security drill held at Fortis Hospital
MOHALI:A series of mock security drills were held at the Fortis Hospital on Monday, as part of the ongoing Quality Awareness Week. Various mock sessions: Code Pink Baby missing, Code Purple Likelihood of a fight and Code Red External disaster were conducted in the hospital.
